Our group along with the Bellas Lab awarded Lipedema Foundation grant
Working with Dr. Evangelia Bellas of Temple University's Department of Bioengineering, we have been awarded a 2021 Research Award from the Lipedema Foundation. Bringing together the imaging of interstitial fluid flow with the tissue engineering of adipose tissue, we will determine how the transport of fluids through fat tissue or problems with the vasculature in the tissue could be central to the disease’s cause. This unique approach, which can account for multiple important factors in lipedemic tissues such as microenvironment, vascularization, fibrosis, and biotransport, can characterize lipedemic tissue and set the stage for patient-specific models for novel therapeutic testing.
